Up, Up and Away

Getting to Bali via Singapore is yet another arduous trip. We started out on Wednesday 24th by taking the train to Wellington. After dinner with Regan and Kerry we stayed the night at the newly opened airport hotel-just a few minutes walk away from check in. The hotel is extremely accommodating, she who can't be named wanted to take the bed back to Greytown.

Flew via Sydney to Singapore. This trip seemed to drag on. Our exit /entry in to Singapore was very quick. The exit reference refers to the speed of immigration and customs, all smooth.

Taxi to Karla and Jono's place and we reacquainted with Alfie. He gave us a very warm welcome.
Early night as tomorrow we are off the Bali with Karla and Jono.

Flight time to Bali was around 3 hours. We arrived in Denpasar (spelling) round 3pm, along with plane loads of Aussies and other tourists. Took a great deal of time to get through immigration. Customs was just a walk through. But once outside chaos ensued. So may people touting for rides/taxi services couple with hundreds off engaged drivers holding name signs. Truely insane.

Found our driver and off we set, what should have been a relatively quick car ride, turned into a 2 hour ordeal. Peak hour traffic with thousands of motor scooters, just insane. And the roads-very narrow and winding. Often along streets lined with furniture and household items manufacturers. All out of wood.

Made it to our villa, right on the coast. Settled in and had the villa chef/cook prepare us a great meal of curry, peanut satay, noodles and rice.

At sunset we watched the bats and swallows flying around, then we noticed a number geckos climbing around the walls-they make a large amount of noise.

The villa comprises 2 separate buildings. Each villa has three large bedrooms all with on suites and air conditioning. All have views down to the beach and a wonderful looking pool (will be in that tomorrow). Right next door to our villa are rice paddies. to get to the villa we had to drive on a narrow gravel road through the rice fields.

Looking out to sea one couldn't help to think is this the 21st century version of Bali Hai (Vanatu was the model for the 1950's version.

Off to bed, aiming to get up around 6am to see the sun rise over the active volcano Agung (last eruption 13 June this year).
Very pleased to have finally arrived.
PS will add photos to morrow.
